Incaperea era cufundata in intuneric la acea ora tarzie din noapte; pe coridoare macar exista cate un sfesnic la fiecare colt ce ne aratase precar drumul. Doar razele lunii mangaiau Camera Fantomelor ; am indreptat bagheta inspre colturi, cautand semne de viata de la morti.

Bineinteles, fantomele erau acolo. Puteam vedea datorita luminii provenite de la baghete siluetele lor fade, translucide. Ii recunosteam pe unii - pe Baronul Sangeros, ce plutea spre tavan, pe Doamna Gri, ce se misca de-a lungul unui sir de tablouri. Apoi l-am vazut pe Nick Aproape Far' de Cap, fantoma Cercetasilor. Cumva, el imi inspira cea mai mare incredere.
Am rasuflat adanc, apoi le-am spus fetelor, aratand spre fantoma Cercetasilor:
- Credeti ca l-am putea intreba daca a vazut pe cineva nou?
Oricum, eu nu vedeam in camera fantoma de care ne ciocnisem mai devreme..sau, mai bine spus, nu il gaseam pe acel student mort.
